Proprietary tools & methodology

Three tools.
One connected
commercial view.

These are the analytical capabilities inside Quantail: the IP and methodology that connect grid conditions to investment decisions.

They work from a shared intelligence foundation. We apply them together, or at the depth needed, to deliver the reports, assessments and support our clients use.

01 / Proprietary tools & methodology

Queue & Connection Intelligence

Understand the connection position.

Reconstruct the queue project by project, assess which schemes are likely to proceed and interpret what the connection terms mean for the asset.

Evidence in

Queue registers, connection offers, project development evidence and reinforcement information.

The method

Current and historical queue reconstruction; build-out probability; Gate 2 offer interpretation; attrition and energisation scenarios; committed versus prospective reinforcement.

Analysis out

A documented view of the queue and connection case, its dependencies and the scenarios that change it.

Applied to

Origination, connection strategy, acquisition diligence and portfolio comparison.

Constraint & Curtailment Engine

The technical core of Quantail.

Model when the asset can import or export under the relevant network constraints and control arrangements. Go beyond a headline annual curtailment estimate to understand the timing and cause of exposure.

Evidence in

Available metered branch flows, pre-event limits, sensitivity factors, network models, queue position and asset profiles.

The method

Branch-level constraint analysis; LIFO or relevant indexing and control rules; time-resolved import/export limits; queue and configuration sensitivities.

Analysis out

Curtailment profiles, binding-constraint analysis and operating envelopes that can be carried into the commercial model.

Applied to

Constraint investigations, development design, revenue assessment and transaction or financing evidence.

Financial Translation

Connect operating reality to the investment case.

Carry constraint timing through dispatch and revenue assumptions, then into the cash flows that drive valuation and financing. Test what the grid case actually changes about the commercial answer.

Evidence in

Operating restrictions, asset configuration, market and revenue assumptions, costs, financing inputs and operating strategy.

The method

Dispatch and revenue-impact analysis, including BESS efficiency, duration and degradation where relevant; cash-flow, IRR, NPV and DSCR sensitivities; counterfactual loss assessment.

Analysis out

Revenue, valuation and financing cases with an explicit link back to the underlying grid assumptions.

Applied to

Investment and fundraising, pricing, acquisition decisions, configuration choices and capital allocation.

Shared intelligence foundation

Connected evidence.
Traceable assumptions.

Every tool draws on the same project evidence and assumptions. Sources, judgements and gaps remain visible as the analysis moves from the network to the investment case.

Network &
connection evidence

NGED / UKPN Connected Data Portal feeds, LTDS / CIM network models, connection offers, control terms and relevant network studies.

Queue &
project evidence

LIFO registers, project capacity and technology, planning and development status, build-out evidence and reinforcement dependencies.

Commercial
assumptions

Market and revenue forecasts, operating strategy, asset configuration, costs and financing assumptions supplied or agreed for the engagement.

Regulatory
knowledge

NESO and Ofgem material, connections reform and structured regulatory knowledge used to interpret the project’s position.

Supporting and developing the product

Knowledge beneath it.
Research looking ahead.

The commercial tools are supported by structured internal knowledge and an evolving research programme.

Internal capability

Structured knowledge

A structured evidence base keeps sources and assumptions traceable across the tools.

Research capability

Market & Policy Simulation

Research into how regulation, connection reform and market behaviour may change the queue and future constraint exposure, including agent-based scenarios. This remains a research layer, distinct from the client work agreed for an engagement.

Sources remain visible.

Network evidence, client inputs and analyst assumptions are distinguished so conclusions can be reviewed.

Uncertainty is explicit.

Alternative queue, reinforcement and market cases show what changes the answer.

Scope follows the evidence.

Modelling depth and coverage depend on the available data and the connection arrangements being assessed.
